Wing foiling in Hanstholm
A session at the fish factory
Hanstholm, July 27, 2022 - A day after the storm, large waves were still crashing against the long pier at the former fish factory.
This small coastal town in northwestern Denmark is considered one of the best surf spots in the north. This Wednesday afternoon, Hanstholm was experiencing gusty winds of 3–5 on the Beaufort scale from the northwest, with the wind gradually dying down.
Lucas Matthes and Luca Lelie were the first wingers to hit the water that day. Luca went out right away with a 3-meter wing, but had barely any pressure for the downwind start on his small Norden Foilsurfboard. Things went much better a little later with a 4-meter wing: "A bit more side-off wind would have been better, but it was still a great day in Hanstholm."
Lucas was also riding a 4-meter wing on a 36-liter board from F-One: "We had a lot of fun in the waves. Especially further out, they were a bit steeper. Luca would have liked some higher waves. For me, this was my third time in the waves, so I still have to get used to everything."
Here are some photos, and further down you'll find a video from the session at the fish factory.
