Laydown Jibe
Lay the wing flat in the turn
The laydown jibe is a type of jibe in which the wing is laid flat during the turn. This allows you to maintain a clear view of the jibe mark, for example, when foiling around the jibe mark alongside several other competitors during a regatta. The laydown jibe is therefore also known as a race jibe.
You can see how the move works in the video. Turn the wing’s lower tip backward while simultaneously tilting the trailing edge toward the center of the turn. Keep the wing leveled during the jibe so that the wind cannot push down on the rear wing surface from above.
To flip the wing, simply lift your back hand slightly; the wind will then catch beneath the wing and help it flip back into the normal riding position.
