Riding Frontside - Training
Flat water training for riding waves
You can also practice foiling along an S-shaped line - the kind you ride when foiling down waves powered-up (with both hands on the boom) - on a lake.
To do this, you combine two turns - essentially a laydown jibe that transitions into a backwind jibe. This corresponds to the bottom turn and the top turn (cutback) on a wave - but here, for practice, it’s simply performed on flat water.
Just like with a bottom turn before a wave, when jibing, you pull the wing on the inside back toward you, ride backwinded for a brief moment, and then continue to go downwind, swinging the wing back into the normal riding position during the second turn (as with a cutback).
That wraps up the dry run - with this preparation, the sequence will work just as well during the next session in the wave, you bet!
