Para Inclusive Wing Foiling Championships (Parasports)
Call for participants for the World Sailing Inclusion Championships, October 1–11, 2026, in Portimão, Portugal
Para wing foiling (derived from "parasport" – sports for people with disabilities – not from winging with a parawing) is a variation of wing foiling that makes the sport accessible to wheelchair users and other people with physical disabilities. Riders foil while seated on the board, with special straps and footstraps ensuring a secure hold. Frenchman Guillaume Colin demonstrates what is possible.
As part of the World Sailing Inclusion Championships, which will be held in Portimão, Portugal, from October 1 to 11, 2026, the first World Championships in Para Wing Foiling (seated wing foiling, para inclusive wing foiling) will also take place.
Potential participants are being sought for this initiative (e.g., wheelchair users and people with leg amputations). Support is provided by Sail United e.V. from Lübeck, Germany, which offers training programs and camps. The long-term goal is to establish this aspect of foiling not only in recreational sports but also in inclusive competitive sports (with the aim of contributing to the return of Paralympic water sports disciplines).
