GWA Wingfoil World Cup Fuerteventura 2026 - Day 5

Racing discipline put to the test: Expression-Slalom

It's a good thing the races in both disciplines were held during the first four days, because today the fan at Sotavento Beach - which usually works reliably - temporarily stopped working.

Before this happened in the afternoon, a few show races were quickly held to test a new competition format. Similar to ski or boardercross, the runs are intended to be more spectacular and demand more skill from the riders.

Pumping, jibing and jumping
Pump on the FreeFly section, jibe and then jump over the sausage

This was achieved by setting up an obstacle that had to be jumped over. A mandatory jump was also incorporated. The bar was set high, as the challenge was to land a 360 - on two different legs for goofy- and regular-foot riders, respectively.

This Expression-Slalom event combines a variety of skills: downwind speed, upwind speed, a well-timed jump over an obstacle, freestyle tricks, racing tactics, safe jibes and tacks around the buoys and downwind foiling with a flagged wing.

The riders had a blast, and it was a treat to watch - even in today’s light wind conditions. Let’s see how this develops in the 2027 season.
