California Wingfoil Masters Sylt 2026

Six slalom races on the first day; Benedikt Hiss leads the standings

Westerland, July 4, 2026 — Slalom, freestyle and wave: The California Wingfoil Masters have been taking place on the German North Sea island of Sylt since Tuesday, featuring all three disciplines. The slalom and wave events are also part of the German championship, while the freestyle event counts toward the ranking series.

The wind was already blowing on opening day, and six slalom races got underway. Seventeen competitors took part, and by the end of the day, U19 rider Benedikt Hiss from Fehmarn led the overall standings with five wins and one second-place finish.

In second place is Jared Wegner (also U19), who won one of the heats. Third on the podium is U17 rider Wilhelm Christahl. The top U15 wing foiler is Jonte Boisen in fourth place.

The wind is set to pick up over the next few days, so we can expect freestyle action on Wednesday and the wave contest to take place on Thursday.

The Sylt shorebreak is always a major unknown factor here, as if the waves are too high, getting out onto the water with wing foil equipment can be too dangerous due to the waves breaking directly onto the beach. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that the conditions will be right.
