GWA Wingfoil World Cup Gran Canaria 2026 - Day 2

GWA Wingfoil World Cup Gran Canaria 2026 - Day 2

Francesco Cappuzzo and Nia Suardiaz are in the lead after the first day

Endless wind in Gran Canaria. The Canary Islands are currently enjoying plenty of wind, as was evident at the recently concluded Windsurfing Freestyle World Cup on Fuerteventura.

Wind and waves aren’t just hitting the neighboring island — El Burrero on Gran Canaria is getting its fair share, too.

It’s a good thing the wing foilers can launch from here, sheltered by a breakwater. Out on the course, however, the competitors faced the full force of the elements. Nia Suardiaz and Francesco Cappuzzo handled the conditions the best.

Nia won five of the six races completed today among the field of 13 female competitors and leads the overall standings ahead of the two Frenchwomen, Kylie Belloeuvre and Enoha Laurent.

Small wings for men, too
Even the smallest wings from the quiver had to be used in the men's competition

In the men's competition, Bastien Escofet claimed two victories but made a mistake in the third elimination, leaving him in second place overall behind Italy's Francesco Cappuzzo. Tom Pansard, also from France, follows in third place.

Tomorrow will be another windy day in Gran Canaria, and by evening, the winners of the FreeFly Slalom will be decided. Stay tuned...
