WingFoil Racing World Cup Gizzeria - Calabria 2026
Alessandro Tomasi and Vaina Picot win at the IWSA tour stop in southern Italy
Can you think of a wing foil regatta that was canceled due to a lack of wind? To be honest, we can’t think of any — wing foiling is always possible, and that was certainly the case at the WingFoil Racing World Cup in Calabria, which wrapped up on Sunday.
Throughout the week, the wind blew strongly enough to complete all the qualifying heats.
On Sunday, it initially looked like there would be no wind, but then the wind returned to the spot off Gizzeria. The Medal Series (final round) was shortened, and the decisive semifinal and final races were then held in light winds of around 10 knots.
In the men’s race, Alessandro José Tomasi (ITA) took the win ahead of Sean Herbert (NZL) and Mathis Ghio (FRA). Vaina Picot (FRA) won the women’s final by a wide margin ahead of Maddalena Maria Spanu (ITA) and Iset Segura (ESP).
No riders from Germany or Switzerland competed; Austria’s Luis Böhm finished the race in 30th place out of 49 participants.
