Switch Tack

Execute a clean toeside tack

Here's how to execute a clean switch tack (toeside tack): While foiling on a crosswind course, move your back hand to the front of the boom (using an underhand grip), and only then begin the turn.

By bringing your arm around the front of your head toward the inside of the planned turn, you’ll find yourself naturally initiating the turn. Keep the wing neutral so you can steer it through the wind with as little resistance as possible.

When riding into the wind, the other hand also takes hold, while the body remains leaned into the turn. This ensures a smooth, controlled turn throughout the maneuver.

Only now do you push the wing in the new direction with your front hand, while your back hand pulls it tight. This increases the wind power in the wing that you can literally hold onto. This power keeps you afloat while foiling and provides the thrust for the final meters of the turn.
