Foil-Festival Fehmarn Update
Informations about 2026 and 2027
The 2026 Foil-Festival will take place for the last time this coming Friday at Südstrand on Fehmarn; starting in 2027, the event will be held concurrently with the surf-Festival about 500 meters further west on the beach next to the westernmost Jetty. Here you’ll find the latest information on both test events:
2026 Foil-Festival
This coming Friday, it’s that time again: Over the Pentecost weekend, you’ll have four days to check out the latest wing foil gear and try it out on the water if the wind is blowing. If there’s no wind, you can still go pump foiling and e-foiling.

Things are also heating up on the sports front. The German Freestyle Wingfoil Championship is coming up. Joining the competition – having traveled all the way from Spain – is U14 World Champion Sofia Ginzinger. The 12-year-old took third place at the recent GWA World Cup in Leucate and has her sights set on the German championship title. Her 11-year-old brother Sandro, who placed third in the U14 World Championship, is also traveling to Fehmarn with the family to compete against the other participants on the Baltic Sea.
Anyone who wants to race against others can participate in the Wingfoil One Hour Race, which is also part of the Winger of the Sea series.

2027 Foil-Festival
The Foil-Festival will be held at its traditional location for the last time this coming Pentecost weekend. The site used to date is slated for development. In order to keep the festival on Fehmarn, the city of Fehmarn, the Public Order Office, the Lower Nature Conservation Authority, and the State Agency for Coastal Protection, National Parks, and Marine Conservation in Schleswig-Holstein (LKN) are exploring alternative sites on the island.
A new temporary location has now been found for 2027, just about 500 meters west of the old site. Next year, the Foil-Festival will take place on the approximately 4.5-hectare stretch of beach along the westernmost Jetty on Südstrand (not to be confused with the 'Westmole' in Puttgarden). For the first time, the stage, food and beverage stands, and food court will be located right on the beach.
Another change: The Foil-Festival will be merged with the surf-Festival in terms of both timing and location. The new joint date is Ascension Day weekend 2027.
Dana Zielinski, Event Manager at the Fehmarn Tourism Service, explains: "Back in 2014, we successfully hosted the SUP World Cup right on the beach at Südstrand, near the Westmole. While the on-site infrastructure poses a challenge, we are confident that, together with our festival-experienced construction crew and with the support and understanding of local residents, we can create a good temporary solution – until, hopefully, we have an even more suitable event venue on the island starting in 2028."
