How to stay foiling during a tack

Close-up of a tack while wing foiling. The video shows how the wing is guided smoothly through the wind. The body maintains its lean into the turn.

  • Turn into the tack and lean your body into the curve
  • Push the wing backward and pull it tight
  • Maintain your position in the tack while riding into the wind
  • With your front hand, slowly and evenly pull the wing past the front of your head toward the inside of the turn, keeping your arm bent
  • Reach forward with your other hand; the other hand reaches around to the back
  • Pull the wing tight while transitioning from the turned position to the normal riding position

To put it even more simply, there are three steps to staying on the foil throughout the tack: luffing up while maintaining forward momentum thanks to the wing pulled tight at the rear, steering the wing neutrally while riding into the wind, and then pulling the wing tight again after grabbing it with your back hand to regain forward momentum.
