Unit SLS review and overview of the new range

Today, Duotone lifted the curtain and unveiled a whole range of 2027 products. Leading the way are the 2027 version of the Unit wings, the new Trace SLS board line and many revised shapes across the other board models.

Unit – new shape
Let’s start with the Unit wing, which is launching in all versions (D/LAB, SLS and Original) with shorter strut, revised profiling, new window placement and modified wing tips. In the lightest and stiffest D/LAB version (yellow/light blue), the diameter of the Aluula leading edge has also been reduced. All other models are available in new color combinations and can still be ridden with a boom or handles.

We had the opportunity to test a 4.0 Unit SLS. With the PentaTX airframe and an Aluula segment in the center, the SLS version is also lightweight and stiff.

This wing, including the boom, weighs just 2.27 kg. The shorter strut and the modified shape of the wingtips are immediately noticeable, as are the larger windows.

On the water, the 2027 Unit rides just like its predecessor: stable, with strong propulsion and plenty of lift on jumps. The drifting characteristics are now better; the new Unit drifts more stably when flagged than its predecessor.

Power distribution and profile stability are top-notch; the wing handles well with one hand on the boom and hovers neutrally overhead during tacks, though it tilts more actively into the new direction of travel than the Float, which hovers even more neutrally.

With shorter strut and its very light weight, the wing handles perfectly in all glide moves, swinging almost on its own into the new direction even during one-handed duck jibes.

All in all, the new Unit makes a pretty good overall impression - there’s really nothing to complain about with the SLS. And what’s new with the boards? Here’s an overview:

Trace SLS - new board line
The Trace SLS is a performance-oriented board designed for foiling in waves, now available in four sizes: 4'7" (45 liters), 4'10" (60 liters), 5'2" (75 liters) and 5'6" (90 liters). With its narrow, wave-oriented outline and corresponding shape details, Duotone positions it between the Sky Style SLS and the Paradox SLS.

Sky Style SLS and Sky Style - new shape
Step tail, reduced length on the smaller sizes and more width in the nose and tail - these are the changes to the Sky Style freestyle all-rounder. Duotone is offering seven boards in the SLS construction (4'2" to 5'4") and three sizes in the standard series (4'11", 5'2", and 5'4") for 2027.

Skybrid SLS – new shape
On the mid-length Skybrid SLS board, the roundness of the rails has been modified and, as with the D/LAB version, beveled further into the hull to reduce the flat gliding surface of the bottom. This is intended to make pumping easier and enable an earlier takeoff, while also providing more forgiving behavior during touchdowns. The stance area has been widened all the way to the rails. In 2027, the board line will include five sizes ranging from 5'5" (60 liters) to 6'1" (100 liters).

Crush SLS - new shape
Duotone now offers the Crush SLS prone foilboard with a new outline and fish tail in sizes 4'2" (27 liters) and 4'5" (35 liters).
