Wingman Creator
Camera Mounts for 360° Cameras & Action Cams
The Wingman brand has been offering harnesses, harness lines and handles for wing foilers for quite some time. Recently, under the “Wingman Creator” label, they’ve also started offering specially designed mounts for action cameras, which are ideally used with 360-degree cameras.
The goal: filming without a cameraman. The “CreatorLite” and “CreatorPro” systems rely on a body-mounted bracket with an extension arm: a 140-cm-long carbon rod extends at an adjustable angle to the side or behind the water sports enthusiast, filming them from a chase perspective. You’re probably familiar with this type of footage from videos. When filming with 360-degree cameras, the desired frame can then be defined later during editing.
The systems, which have different configurations, cost 469 and 549 euros, respectively - not exactly cheap, but they’re also designed for professional use, including livetime support.
The third product is the “CreatorMark”: a buoy that floats in the water and carries a camera mounted on an extendable arm. The counterweight is extended during use and secured with a twist lock. This allows for relatively stable footage even when the water’s surface is choppy. A carrying strap is included for transport, so you can strap the buoy to your back.
Optionally, a GPS tracker can be retrofitted to help locate the buoy if you lose sight of it on the water. The CreatorMark drifts with the wind, waves and currents - it is not anchored to the bottom.
A downward extension is also available, to which a camera (with or without a waterproof housing) can be attached to film fish-eye views as you ride by. The buoy costs 349 euros, and the downward extension pole for the underwater perspective costs 129 euros.
Built-in safety in case of collisions: Inside the carbon tubes, a safety line ensures that the camera won’t be lost even if the pole breaks.
