Klaas Voget and Theo Buchwald also win the second wave elimination
Westerland, August 7, 2026 — Friday began just as Thursday had ended: with a storm and high waves. Overnight, the wind had shifted from the southwest to the west - blowing directly onshore. The shorebreak was correspondingly high, but as the tide went out, the second round of the wave discipline was able to get underway.
The U15 juniors were initially put on standby, and the competition began with the U17/U19/men's divisions. There weren't any major surprises there, though some matches were extremely close.
In the end, Hubert Christahl and Klaas Voget faced off again in the final. This time it was a closer race, but Klaas came out on top, effectively securing his defense of the German championship title.
In the B final for third place, Benedikt Hiss and Wilhelm Christahl faced off once again. It was a closer match than the one the day before, but on Friday, too, Benedikt Hiss won by a 2-1 judges’ decision over Wilhelm Christahl.
As the day went on, the wind died down, and as the tide went out, the waves also got smaller. With conditions now more favorable, the second wave elimination for the U15 juniors was able to begin right away.
The final once again featured a showdown between Theo Buchwald and Tebbe Voget. Just as he had two days earlier, Theo Buchwald came out on top, putting him on track for the German Junior Championship title in the wave discipline. In the B final, Jonte Boysen once again defeated Julian Moritz Furkmann.
Now that Wednesday and Thursday’s results have been confirmed in today’s second wave elimination round, and with the weekend’s wind forecasts suggesting conditions more suited to freestyle and slalom, the battle for the wave title appears to be over.
As a result, the focus during the final weekend of the California Wingfoil Masters Sylt will be entirely on the German Championship title races in slalom and the freestyle discipline.
