Klaas Voget and Theo Buchwald win the contest in the wave

Westerland, August 6, 2026 - The third day of the Wingfoil Masters on Sylt brought the expected storm from the west. Organizers recorded wind speeds of seven on the Beaufort scale and waves up to two meters high. It was the perfect setting for the men’s wave contest.

Fourteen riders competed; in the end, defending champion Klaas Voget from Kiel faced off against youngster Hubert Christahl from Preetz in the final. Hubert had defeated Lasse Böhm in the quarterfinals and then advanced to the final after defeating his brother Wilhelm in their head-to-head matchup.

Klaas Voget defeated Tim Buchwald and Benedikt Hiss in the preliminary rounds. In the final, the Kiel native’s years of experience and knowledge of the Brandenburger Beach paid off. Klaas has been competing on this beach for years as a professional windsurfer in national and international competitions, and this year he once again won the wave elimination in wing foiling.

In the B final for third place, Benedikt Hiss prevailed over Wilhelm Christahl, securing the third spot on the podium in the wave discipline.

The start of the junior wave elimination was moved up to the evening of the previous day to avoid the challenging conditions. For the U15 riders, the shorebreak would have been too much of an obstacle. Theo Buchwald won this contest on Wednesday evening, ahead of Tebbe Voget, Jonte Boysen, and Julian Moritz Furkmann.

Back to Thursday. Due to the extreme conditions, no further races were held after that. The shorebreak was too high to safely send the riders out onto the water. The wind is expected to continue blowing over the remaining three days, so more races are expected through Sunday.
