Formula Wing World Championship Istanbul 2026
Alessandro Tomasi and Vaina Picot win the world championship title
From August 10 to 15, the Formula Wing World Championship took place on the Bosporus off the coast of the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul. The final day was on Saturday and was quite suspenseful, as several races saw dramatic moments unfold right at the starting line.
Mutual interference culminated in a crash involving Yana Li and Aimilia Kosti, as well as a near-collision between Kamil Manowiecki and the rather massive launch boat. After a rescue jump, the Polish pilot narrowly avoided veering around the stern by a hair’s breadth (you can watch that best in the video of the final day).
At the very front of the pack, the winners of the qualifying rounds confirmed their results in the final races: Both Italy’s Alessandro Tomasi and France’s Vaina Picot won their respective finals on their first attempt, thereby securing the world championship title in the Formula Wing discipline.
The vice-titles went to Francesco Cappuzzo and Maddalena Spanu, while third place went to Thomas Proust and FreeFly Slalom World Champion Kylie Belloeuvre. Jette Koep finished sixth among the 24 women, and Yannik Holste placed 23rd among the 66 competitors.
