Boardercross and freestyle contest on Fehmarn
Last weekend, the SEND IT Wingfoil Clash took place in Altenteil on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn. A boardercross and freestyle contest was on the agenda for the 50 registered participants. The competition was held in the following categories: U12, U14, U16, U19, Women and Men.
The field of competitors was quite large, likely in part because there was a total of around 5,000 euros in prize money, gift certificates, and non-cash prizes up for grabs. The location was also perfectly chosen—the event started right from the “Ahoi Camp” campground on the beach in Altenteil, which offers an unobstructed spot for almost all wind directions.
On Friday, they still had to use a jet ski to pull the wing foilers across the water during a tow-in session, but on Saturday the wind was strong enough to hold a full boardercross competition.
Similar to what was first demonstrated at the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in Fuerteventura, the boardercross race on Fehmarn also involved navigating an obstacle and buoys, with riders pumping in the final section without the wing’s propulsion - a race that was particularly spectacular for spectators, starting and finishing on the beach.
A day later, the boardercross resumed in slightly stronger winds. The course was laid out in reverse so that regular- and goofy-foot riders could compete under comparable conditions throughout the weekend.
Then the discipline changed, and about 44 of the registered riders took part in the freestyle contest. The freestyle concept of the SEND IT Wingfoil Clash was designed to showcase the full range of modern freestyle performance. It wasn’t the number of different tricks that counted, but rather technical difficulty, style, flow, variety, control, and the overall impression of the performance.
Five judges awarded the points, and depending on the riders’ skill levels, the audience saw big-air maneuvers such as palau variations and backflips; surf-style elements like hang fives, carving, and small wave maneuvers in the knee-high Baltic Sea chop; as well as one-handed riding with a foot touching the water’s surface.

There were also special awards:
Breakthrough Rider: A 1,000-euro Duotone gift certificate for an unsupported rider who stands out at the event. Winner: Eddy Möller.
Best Girl Overall Performance: A 500-euro Duotone gift card as an additional special prize created specifically to support women and girls. Winner: Marta Lippross.
Best Wipeout: 100 euros from Provinzial went to Piet Katenkamp.
Trick of the Day: Pit Hausberg won with a very cleanly executed palau-backflip combo. Runner-up was Wilhelm Christahl with a trick called slim chance, which couldn’t be landed quite cleanly due to the wind conditions.
Several Duotone Pro Riders, who had previously been in Denmark for a product photo shoot, were also on hand for the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. Wesley Brito, Finn and Jeffrey Spencer, Mala'e McElheny and Tom Aubert presented the awards.
The event was a success and is set to be repeated in the fall of 2027, with even more active involvement from young people to further develop the concept of promoting young talent.
